Winter Access

Red Door Managers Cabin Tyrol Lodge

Access to the lodge in winter is a question that we get asked a lot. In summer you drive straight down to the lodge, but in winter with the road too steep to drive and covered in snow, we have to access via a more traditional method.

The fact that the lodge is inaccessible by road in winter is something that people love or hate, but it is a reality of having access to property in Whistler year round.

If you follow the images below I will guide you down to the lodge, from the upper parking lot through to your room at the lodge.

Park in Upper Lot

Park your car in the upper lot,

close to the next car as there might be a full lodge later. Always reverse into the spot, as it is easier to drive out if there has been snow overnight.

Switch into your winter boots and turn on your headlamp.

Whilst the kids like to slip and slide down the slope, we recommend using micro-spikes on your footwear to avoid falling. The hill down to the lodge is steep. These grips make the walk up and down much more enjoyable.

sledding down access road

Send the kids to find the sled.

Load it up with all your supplies and send it down the hill. The kids and sled always stops before the shed, where you detor down the illuminated walkway. Remember, what you don’t use, you have to bring back up. Life gets easier when you have a locker!

As you head down,

the slope gets a little steeper and you wished you had remembered the head torch and the boot grips. But then you see the red door and your room allocation! Home at last! From here, walk across to the main lodge. We have a bear lock, so press the door bell whilst turning the knob.

Once you arrive at the lodge,

take off your wet pants and jackets and dry them in the spacious drying room. Regardless of how wet they are, they will be dry in the morning!
