We have been upgrading the kitchen utensils and dishes. Note, we have put all of the knives and forks and most of the kitchen tools / utensils over on the counter space within the main cubby storage.  $20,000  budgeted for upgrade of the furniture and lighting in the lounge has been approved by the Board.  The Decor committee, a subcommittee of the Operations and Maintenance Committee is working to bring this to fruition. Operations PlansOur primary concerns for the current period are to get the balcony renovation / replacement completed as soon as possible.  No small task, we are working through the challenges but seem to have learned this project requires professional input from a number of different professions, including, but not limited to; environmental, geotechnical, and structural engineers and of course the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) plus the requisite construction trades to orchestrate the build once certified (stamped, locked and no erasies) .  Once we have the necessary consultations to proceed we will need to apply for permits and hire a contractor to complete the work required. We hope to complete this project in 2023 but based on the lead time required by our consultants and contractors, this project may not be completed until 2024.Social Calendar + Work Weekend70th Anniversary & Founders Appreciation Weekend May 27 – 28, 2023Details to follow and we are going to need some help pulling this off in an effort to respectfully celebrate the founders and stewards who have made it possible to have have the club and lodge we have today.  Work Weekend May 7-8, 2023.April 15th end of ski school party at the lodgeFixed social date each yearMay Beers and BBQ at KYC to celebrate end of ski season  – DATE: TBDJune Hike on Bowen  – DATE: TBDJuly Family biking weekend  – DATE: TBDDATE: TBDJuly Paddle River Golden Dreams  – DATE: TBDDATE: TBDSeptember Family Hike up Rainbow Mountain  – DATE: TBDDATE: TBDOctober Work weekend TBD  – DATE: TBDSeason update:The snow has been good and bad this season, but despite that the Saturday and Sunday Ski groups are forming a tighter community.  Last weekend we actually skied with 16 Tyrol members and a few additional guests.  A crazy big group, but it worked well.  We just need to get all the kids skiing together now.QR Code – See Something Say Something A QR code will be posted in several locations around the lodge.  If you notice something that needs to be fixed or addressed please scan this code with your phone to let us know. The codes allow you to click through and fill out a form to get something done.  E.G. The other week I found a loose door knob, so I filled out the form and the knob was replaced. When you submit a request it goes directly to the manager.  When the task has been completed you will be notified providing you enter your email address on the form.Keep it simple and keep it clean!KitchensAs we have so many new members this year, this is just a gentle reminder to all members about helping keep the place clean and user friendly for others. We ask that all members take an extra few minutes to ensure that when using the kitchen spaces, that you clean as you go along and that after cooking your meal, you wash, clean and put away all utensils, pots, pans and plates etc, so that other members can use the space immediately. It is particularly important on those busy Friday/Saturday nights and Saturday/Sunday mornings, when everyone is looking to get fed and out the door, or settle in the evening after a long drive up from the city. Please consider cleaning and clearing the kitchen space, before you sit down to enjoy your meal, allowing the next family or members to start their cooking preparations. And when you are done- please don’t leave you dishes in the drying rack to dry- please dry them and put them away. And please, please, please do NOT leave food scraps in the sink (it’s disgusting and causes blockages!) Other Shared SpacesIn addition to keeping the kitchens clean and available, we ask that members clean down the dining rooms tables, with a quick disinfectant spray and wipe down, clearing loose food and spills, so that others can find a clean space to eat.Members must take the time to look at the spaces that their children have been enjoying, ensuring that those spaces are left clean at the end of the day for others to enjoy the following day, this would include the play room and book corner (great spaces where the kids like to play) so that others do not have to clean up the things your progeny left about, unkempt.Stocking the wood –Although we are ending the colder part of the winter season, it is always good for members to remember that in addition to using the wood for the fire to keep everyone warm and snuggly, it is important each of us takes turns walking down to the wood storage area and restocking the woods bins by the fire and restocking the storage area under the covered area outside the front door of the lodge so we can have nice dry wood to make and keep the hearth warm for a comfortable lodge.  If each of us, half of the time we walk through the front door, carry 3 or 4 pieces of cut wood from the log pile across the yard and manage it upstairs to the wood box, we will be well stocked.  If the other half of the time you bring the logs just from the big pile to the pile by the door we will be well off.  If every time you have a kid under 18 you get them to carry 3 pieces from the outside to upstairs we will be well off.  Like everything, we just have to keep chipping away at it.If everyone does their part, it means everyone can enjoy the lodge. The same holds true for the kitchen.  If you clean up your mess then others don’t have to clean up behind you.  Thank you in advance for your support. If you do not clean up your mess it means you are NOT doing your part and you are leaving a mess for others.  If you feel that is ok, stop it; it is not OK.  DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DIRTY DISHES.  When you are feeling pretty good about doing your dishes and are just about ready to call it quits, don’t!  DRY & PUT AWAY YOUR DISHES!!!  There is no other thing to say other than DRY & PUT AWAY YOUR DISHES!  To be clear nothing else is acceptable.  It doesn’t matter if there is fresh powder in the morning, or your child is going to be late for ski school CLEAN – DRY – PUT AWAY YOUR DISHES!  Don’t be that bad member, it is not OK.  STOP IT!Example below – No thank you  Shared Space – Community MindednessBefore we get too far way let us please circle back and remember that we are sharing the lodge with other members and guests and as such we need to be thoughtful and aware of what others might need to enjoy the lodge we are sharing. Some examples of thoughtful activities includeDishes – wash, dry, and put away your dishes, back where they belong immediately after use.  If you are finished cooking, clean up the kitchen workstation and leave it ready for the next member to use while you are dining.Utensil Placement  – utensils are being stored in a central location to facilitate the return, ease of access and management of all items.  This helps avoid the need to search for utensils in the various kitchen stations.Table Wipe – tables should be wiped clean immediately after use.   When you have finished dining, your family should move to the soft seating areas and your dinner table and chairs should be wiped down to prepare for the next member.Floor Sweep – Children (really, all of us) can sometimes be messy eaters.  We get that and that’s ok, as long as you take responsibility for cleaning up when you are finished dining.  Other members do not want to be stepping on crumbs and food bits on the floor, around and under the table you just used.  Please, make sure you check around when your family is finished and leave the table(s) in a clean state for the next member.Fire Wood – Members often wonder what they can do at the lodge to complete the volunteer hours that all members are expected to contribute, annually.  Firewood is always an easy task to accomplish regardless of when this might become a necessity.  If there is firewood stacked under the eves at the main entrance – feel free to use the green bins by the fireplace to bring it up.  If the firewood stacked at the entrance is getting low, there is an axe and a sled to transport firewood from the woodshed to the lodge.    10.  WhatsApp Chat linksAny members interested in joining the informal and hopefully helpful chats below, please follow the links.  These are a way to share information amongst members.   Please remember that this is a casual chat room to respond to members’ questions as they come up.  Feel free to ignore or respond to the chat.  Nothing important will be posted on this site, that is not duplicated on the website and in the newsletter; though it may be more timely.Keep in mind this is a good way to play out your adventures, shared meals etc.Tyrol Q&Ahttps://chat.whatsapp.com/JtRXvqDhPWLLGVWAFWzt0FTyrol Saturday Ski Teamhttps://chat.whatsapp.com/CGO5muk8B8q6NOs9GxvTswTyrol Sunday Ski Teamhttps://chat.whatsapp.com/HcGGDrOZLstLyUZruuhlMHTyrol Buy/Sell/Trade/Gift https://chat.whatsapp.com/JwwJqUm2vkD8yRJPTr87mw Room Revenue Update: As of March 10th, our room revenue for the first half of the fiscal year is $82,000, this is double the FY 2018/19 (last pre-covid year and prior to membership growth) revenue, and roughly the same as the revenue for that whole year.  We are trending roughly 5-10 % above the room revenue target in the 5 year plan. In Closing What an adventure…  The club has grown and we have FANTASTIC new members to add to our all star line up.  Try to enjoy what we / you have.  Be kind.  Be charitable.  Be thoughtful.  We are accountable to each other.  Talk to each other, and share.  Your opinion matters.

Give more than you take and when in doubt do more than your share; it is like helping a friend (new or old) and helping is better than hindering.  Perhaps I was wrong to SKREECH about cleaning up, but someone has to say it.  Perhaps it is best to frame the state of the union as; the biggest thing we have to worry about these days is washing and putting way one’s dishes… this is better than lots of things.  Lets take a few moments and appreciate the fantastic community we have and find ways to make life easier for one and o.ther so we can spend more time enjoying what we have and appreciating what we’ve done rather than having to clean up after each other… damn that is repetitive….  WASHING PROPERLY & PUTTING AWAY dishes has been a perennial problem (since 1966); let’s put an end to this issue and we never have to talk about it EVER AGAIN!  Consider this; our club is 70 years old. Won’t we feel proud to tell the founding members who come to visit in May, that after 70 years, not only do we maintain the club but we’ve figured out how to wash and put away our dishes like full grown adults.

On behalf of the whole board (except for the spelling mistakes and factually incorrect statmements – those are mine) I wish you peace, health, well wishes, great snow and bluebird skies.
