  10. In Closing

The ski season is in full force, and it has been an exciting time for the club. We have more new members joining than ever before. The club is at max capacity every weekend, and we have kids running around, laughter, and memories being made.

With that being said, we want to make sure that the club continues to run smoothly and that things are not left in disarray. Here are a couple of reminders.

Housekeeping Rules

  1. Please make sure that you clean your kitchen area as soon as possible so others can use it.
  2. Once you’ve used a dish towel, please put it in the bin near the fridges (ignore the sign that they need to be dry to be placed in there, we will have this removed)
  3. Although we are all for kids running amuck, they also need to be reigned in once in a while. If you see any kids doing anything inappropriate, please tell them.
  4. Also remember that people are sleeping in the rooms below the games room, so no access to that room until 8.30am each morning.  Quiet reading is allowed, but no running or rough play.

Trial Members

We hope you love Tyrol as much as we do! If you plan on becoming a Regular or Peak member, please email Barry (Membership Director) membership@tyrolskiclub.com to let him know as soon as possible. We currently have close to 200 members, and we are coming to our max capacity. Letting us know in advance will ensure that you get a spot!

Upcoming events and activities

TYROL 2022 CENSUS (March 17)

Watch out for the Tyrol 2022 Census. This survey will ask you lots of questions about your habits and use of the lodge and the information collected from this survey will help the BOD determine the number of members ( Peak and Regular) as well as committees to create/ maintain for us to hit that sweet spot so everyone has the opportunity to use the club and help out in the manner that works best for them.

EASTER WEEKEND (April 15 – 17) – Come and bring your family up to the lodge Easter Long Weekend! There will be fun activities for the kids, including an Easter Egg Hunt!

*Subject to change due to COVID guidelines*

WORK WEEKEND (May 2)

Due to COVID, the past two work weekends have been smaller, which means that there is A LOT to do. Mark it in your calendar!

For those who have never attended, it’s a big clean-up event that happens twice a year, and all members must attend at least one.

Examples of activities include cleaning, painting, re-organizing, building the rear fire escape from the bedrooms, and building the metal fire pit gazebo ( all 215 screws in the pouring rain!) We have a master list that we can share closer to the date.

This time we need lumberjacks, log carriers and choppers.  We may also clear the woods of brush and shred all the branches.

Your room is covered if you are coming. We would love for everyone to attend. However, due to the nature of this weekend, we cannot have lots of little kids running around. If there is an opportunity to leave the munchkins at home, please do so. Older kids to help clean the brush are more than welcome!

LEGACY

Lastly, with a heavy heart, we share the sad news of the passing of two of our members.

Rolf Frowein – was a very active member of the club, including former president; he passed away last Jan (2021) and believed to be the oldest member at the time (or the oldest surviving member from the founding days).

Rolf was very passionate about the Club and what it stood for (affordable family access to the mountains and skiing.)

In loving memory of Rolf W Frowein, March 10, 1933 – Jan 13, 2021, please join us for a memorial service honouring his life on Thursday, March 10, 2022, which would have been his 89th Birthday. The service will be at 2 pm with reception to follow, at St. Mark’s Evangelical-Lutheran Church, 1573 E. 18th Ave, in Vancouver, BC.

Marie Priessel – As a founding member of Tyrol Ski and Mountain Club, Marie left behind a legacy. Hundreds of families have created special memories with their families due to Marie and her passion for Tyrol. A special tribute to Marie and the founding members will be coming out shortly.

Here is a link to Marie’s obituary and we will send out the link to her online memorial service in June.
